The Evan Anderson pick is the one that will follow the Chargers into the fall. They took him 30 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. Put together, it is a D.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Washington.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 5 they get a cornerstone up front. A real need, handled.
A reach on Edgerrin Cooper in Round 2, Pick 5; the board had better options right there. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They paid a round early for Max Melton in slot 69, more than the board wanted. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They did well to land Brenden Rice in the 105th pick, just ahead of his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Braelon Allen at Round 4, Pick 10 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Hunter Nourzad at pick 140 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
Fabien Lovett in No. 181 is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They robbed the room for Tahj Washington here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Evan Anderson at the 253rd overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
