When the story of this class is written, it opens with Kendall Milton at No. 171, a reach of 30 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. Little went right, and the F does not pretend otherwise.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Spending an early pick on cornerback with quarterback open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
That Oladapo pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
There is no soft landing here: they fought the board and left quarterback open, and the grade is the bill.
Pick-by-Pick
Xavier Legette at pick No. 39 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They went early on T.J. Tampa in the 43rd overall pick, and the value did not follow. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A conviction pick on Bralen Trice at No. 50 that the board grades a round light. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid a round early for Ruke Orhorhoro in the 53rd pick, more than the board wanted. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No drama and no debate, Kiran Amegadjie went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They will replay Cooper Beebe at pick 65 for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in pick 74 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A need, and now a little less of one.
Brandon Dorlus at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Theo Johnson in pick No. 95, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Johnny Wilson well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Matt Goncalves in slot 109, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on McKinnley Jackson. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A curious use of the 132nd pick. Quarterback needed the pick; a cornerback in Josh Newton did not.
A tidy bit of business in Round 5, Pick 20, where Trevor Keegan graded well above the range. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A real head-scratcher, Cornelius Johnson in the Round 5 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Kendall Milton in No. 171 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
You do not let a safety like Kitan Oladapo reach the 172nd pick and blink. They did not. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A wild overpay on Ryan Flournoy in pick No. 173, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
