The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Chiefs watched Trevor Keegan slide 69 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C-.
The Cephus reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down.
The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
In the end, a coin-flip class: fine today, with a wide range of outcomes ahead.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 32 they get a home-run threat at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No drama and no debate, T.J. Tampa went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 15. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Bralen Trice in the 64th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A straight-up fair deal on Kiran Amegadjie at pick No. 66, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Dominick Puni at the Round 3 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Brenden Rice at par in the 95th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Mekhi Wingo in pick 104, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at No. 107 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
McKinnley Jackson at the 132nd overall pick is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Dwight McGlothern in pick No. 159 is fair value, right on his grade. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kendall Milton well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They robbed the room for Trevor Keegan here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
