They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Christian Mahogany, 40 picks early at the 58th pick.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. With quarterback unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
Getting Laube where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Xavier Legette. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Patrick Paul at the 53rd overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A real head-scratcher, Christian Mahogany in slot 58 is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No edge and no loss on Max Melton in pick 71; it is a wash and a sensible one. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They took Brandon Dorlus at par in the Round 3 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in pick No. 79 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Dominick Puni at pick 88 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid sticker price for Jonah Elliss in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.

They jumped the gun on Mekhi Wingo, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A straight-up fair deal on Brenden Rice at the 92nd pick, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Kris Abrams-Draine at cornerback with quarterback open.
No drama and no debate, Johnny Wilson went about where he belonged in slot 120. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
