If confidence were a draft strategy, the Chargers would have aced it. Sedrick Van Pran at the 54th pick is 36 spots clear of where he belonged.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

The Colson pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at interior defensive lineman and quarterback. The Darius Slayton pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
