The Chargers spent real capital to be 34 picks early on Tanner McLachlan, and the board is going to hold them to it. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Everything downstream of Caleb Williams depends on Caleb Williams, and the building knows it.
However the rest shakes out, Green at that price is a win they earned.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 1st pick they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
In Round 1, Pick 5 they get a weapon on the perimeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
In the 9th overall pick they get a blindside protector at fair value. A real need, handled.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Bralen Trice. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Nothing to complain about; DeWayne Carter went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Circle this one: DJ James at pick No. 139 is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board fumbled Renardo Green all the way to Round 6, Pick 8, and they scooped it up. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Jalen Berger at the Round 7 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
