This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Damien Martinez, the No. 150 name on the board, stolen at the Round 7 slot. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
They are betting Truss proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 12 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
In the Round 1 slot they get a security blanket over the middle, and a steal at that.
In slot 25 they get a blindside protector. A real need, handled.
Jack Bech at the 69th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Andrew Mukuba at pick No. 106 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board fumbled Joshua Farmer all the way to Round 5, Pick 11, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Damien Martinez in No. 217 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Xavier Truss this early at the 238th pick. It fills a real need, too.
