The Trey Moore selection is the head-turner. The Jets reached 77 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C+.
Spending an early pick on linebacker with quarterback and running back open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
On value alone, Nwokobia makes the weekend a net positive.
So much rides on Arvell Reese that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a three-down second-level presence at fair value.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose linebacker. Sonny Styles in No. 16 leaves quarterback and running back for later.
In slot 24 they get an island corner, though they paid up to get him. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A reach for Caleb Banks in pick No. 33; a little patience would have been rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Emmanuel Pregnon at the 44th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It fills a real need, too.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Trey Moore this early at the 103rd pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A slide stopped in slot 140, with Oscar Delp worth more than the price. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They paid a round early for VJ Payne in pick 179, more than the board wanted. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A wild overpay on Hykeem Williams in No. 228, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The roster fit checks out.
Isaiah Nwokobia at the 242nd pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
