You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Eagles did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.
Getting Greenfield where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.
Pick-by-Pick
Fair-plus on Quinyon Mitchell, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
In the 26th pick they get a potential shutdown corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Tyler Nubin at pick 54 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. The roster fit checks out.
Nothing to complain about; Edgerrin Cooper went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
Matt Goncalves slid further than he should have, and the 124th overall pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Johnny Wilson at the Round 4 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A quiet steal in Round 5, Pick 20: Justin Eboigbe for less than the market said. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They did well to land Dallin Holker in slot 158, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.

Steal is underselling it; Jacob Cowing at the 171st pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Xavier Thomas in pick No. 172 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Circle this one: Dylan Laube at the 176th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They will replay Dwight McGlothern at No. 184 for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jase McClellan is a better player than pick 206 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A clean, defensible pick in the 210th pick with a little surplus value in Julian Pearl. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Erick All in pick No. 211. A need, and now a little less of one.
Nathaniel Watson at the 220th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Garret Greenfield at pick 243 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
