Thirty-one other rooms let Kaleb Johnson slide, and the Cowboys were the ones holding the card at Round 5, Pick 31. Highway robbery. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
The Igbinosun pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Raekwon Davis pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 13th overall pick they get a centerpiece for the ground game at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Nick Emmanwori in Round 2, Pick 13 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Kenneth Grant at pick No. 73 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Alfred Collins in slot 75 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Kaleb Johnson at the Round 5 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Somehow Cody Simon was still sitting there in pick 170, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Steal is underselling it; Andrew Mukuba at the 171st pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
They robbed the room for Lathan Ransom here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
The board had cheaper options than Gunnar Helm at No. 176, and it noticed. A need, and now a little less of one.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Davison Igbinosun this early at the 186th pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A quiet steal in pick 200: Bryce Foster for less than the market said. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
