The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Tyler Shough, the 174th pick, roughly 38 picks past where he belonged. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. The Danielle Hunter deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a weapon on the perimeter, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Omarion Hampton slid further than he should have, and pick No. 44 is lovely value for the running back. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Isaiah Bond in Round 3, Pick 12 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Circle this one: Anthony Belton at the 149th pick is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Raheim Sanders in slot 171 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board fumbled Tyler Shough all the way to the Round 5 slot, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Addison West at the 204th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Luke Lachey in pick 211, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Somehow R.J. Mickens was still sitting there in slot 239, and they pounced on premier safety value. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Clay Webb in No. 247 lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
