The trade table was a mismatch, and the Chiefs were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
The Guyton pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
They will need Davis to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The Rashid Shaheed pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, Xavier Worthy at No. 42 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They will replay Tyler Guyton at pick No. 64 for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Circle this one: Malachi Corley at pick 95 is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Khyree Jackson at slot 109 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Ben Sinnott at the 133rd overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Cam Hart at the Round 5 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ty'Ron Hopper. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Isaiah Davis at the 172nd overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
