Thirty-one other rooms let Ricky Pearsall slide, and the Chiefs were the ones holding the card at No. 95. Highway robbery. The bottom line is a respectable B.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 32 they get a true top target. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Fair-plus on Kingsley Suamataia, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Taking Ricky Pearsall in the Round 3 slot is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Josh Newton is a better player than the 132nd overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They read the board right and Dallin Holker was the payoff at Round 5, Pick 23. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nice patience on Tykee Smith, who had no business lasting to the 173rd pick. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Nathan Thomas reach slot 252 and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
