The Bears ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A to cap it.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. The Bears clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
On value alone, Rice makes the weekend a net positive. Corum has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Taliese Fuaga and all.
Pick-by-Pick
They did well to land Taliese Fuaga in the 19th pick, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
In No. 23 they get a disruptor off the edge. The biggest hole, addressed.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kool-Aid McKinstry in the Round 1 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They went early on Blake Corum in slot 75, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They read the board right and Brenden Rice was the payoff at Round 4, Pick 8. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Spencer Rattler at pick No. 122 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It fills a real need, too.
