The tape said wait; the Packers did not. Al Blades Jr. went at pick 246, a good 55 picks before the board was ready. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
The Kinchens value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a run-stuffing presence up front, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
They paid sticker price for Devontez Walker in pick No. 41, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Taking Kamren Kinchens in slot 57 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Bucky Irving at No. 88 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Darius Robinson in the 91st overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No edge and no loss on Javon Foster in pick 125; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Ty'Ron Hopper in pick 135, miles early. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A premium they did not need to pay, Tanor Bortolini a notch or two before his time. The roster fit checks out.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jawhar Jordan at slot 217 is the proof. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Value said wait; Eric Gentry in Round 6, Pick 44 says they were not listening. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
A real head-scratcher, Al Blades Jr. in the 246th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
