Good, not great, for the Packers: B-.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Packers spent pick No. 246 on John Emery Jr., a name most had 97 spots down the list.

Landing Polk that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.

The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Troy Fautanu · OT · rank 29
In the 25th pick they get a building block for the line. A real need, handled.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 35
Nothing to complain about; Chop Robinson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Ja'Tavion Sanders · TE · rank 54
Ja'Tavion Sanders at pick 57 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Ja'Lynn Polk · WR · rank 55
Taking Ja'Lynn Polk in the 88th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Ruke Orhorhoro · DT · rank 69
Ruke Orhorhoro in No. 91 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Darius Robinson · DL-EDGE · rank 121
Good price on Darius Robinson in pick No. 125, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 135
Cedric Gray at pick No. 135 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R6.28 · Pick 203 · Omar Speights · LB · rank 208
By-the-book stuff, Omar Speights at the Round 6 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
R6.42 · Pick 217 · Jawhar Jordan · RB · rank 209
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jawhar Jordan in pick 217. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Demani Richardson · S · rank 246
A big swing on Demani Richardson at the 219th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R7.26 · Pick 246 · John Emery Jr. · RB · rank 343
Value said wait; John Emery Jr. in No. 246 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
