The Commanders spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Tyler Guyton, the No. 39 name on the board, in the Round 3 slot.
Whatever Caleb Williams becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.
The Lloyd reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 2 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A real need, handled.
A reach for Chris Braswell in No. 40; a little patience would have been rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jackson Powers-Johnson at the Round 2 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Somehow Patrick Paul was still sitting there in No. 67, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tyler Guyton at pick No. 100 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A tidy little value on Zak Zinter in pick 102, a step better than break-even. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
MarShawn Lloyd at Round 4, Pick 9 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jaheim Bell at the 141st overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jaylan Ford at slot 181 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Taking Josh Proctor in the 223rd pick is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
