The phones were a trap the Packers kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They banked enough surplus on Coleman to cover a lot of smaller sins. Every board in the league had Mustapha lower, and that gap is the story.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
Nate Wiggins in slot 41 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board had Keon Coleman higher than pick No. 51, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Zak Zinter in Round 3, Pick 25 is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A straight-up fair deal on Max Melton at pick 119, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Malik Mustapha at the 135th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A minor need, but a need all the same.
