The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Caleb Williams, and the whole operation now runs on his development. No fireworks, but a solid B+.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Henderson. The Solomon pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at cornerback, edge rusher and other spots.
The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 2 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value.
They jumped the gun on Patrick Paul, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jackson Powers-Johnson in Round 2, Pick 11 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No edge and no loss on Blake Corum in No. 67; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose OLB-EDGE. Javon Solomon in the Round 3 slot leaves cornerback, edge rusher and other spots for later.
Ben Sinnott at the 141st overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Curtis Jacobs in pick No. 181, and that is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
LaDarius Henderson in the 201st pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They robbed the room for Isaiah Williams here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
