Thirty-one other rooms let Cam Skattebo slide, and the Commanders were the ones holding the card at pick 203. Highway robbery. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They are betting Pierce proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Tyler Booker in pick 61, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Hollin Pierce at No. 84 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They reached into another round for Emery Jones Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Mason Taylor in slot 146 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Cam Skattebo in the 203rd pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board fumbled Jeremy Crawshaw all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
You do not let a linebacker like Jaishawn Barham reach the 236th overall pick and blink. They did not. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Shilo Sanders. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
