Houston Texans

The Texans got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-.

The Jordan Travis pick is the one that will follow the Texans into the fall. They took him 54 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. Too much went sideways, and the D- is the honest tally.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Landing Jackson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.

A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.29 · Pick 29 · T'Vondre Sweat · DL · rank 32
T'Vondre Sweat at the Round 1 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R2.1 · Pick 33 · Emeka Egbuka · WR · rank 25
Value with a capital V on Emeka Egbuka in Round 2, Pick 1, a genuine coup. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 55
They reached a country mile for Cooper Beebe at pick No. 37, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R2.16 · Pick 48 · Javon Foster · OT · rank 54
No edge and no loss on Javon Foster in No. 48; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R2.27 · Pick 59 · Jonah Elliss · DE-EDGE · rank 51
Jonah Elliss at slot 59 is money in the bank, a edge rusher taken below his worth. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.16 · Pick 80 · TreVeyon Henderson · RB · rank 84
TreVeyon Henderson at pick 80 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.18 · Pick 82 · D.J. James · CB · rank 77
D.J. James at pick No. 82 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.20 · Pick 84 · Jordan Travis · QB · rank 138
Jordan Travis in the 84th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The roster fit checks out.
R3.29 · Pick 92 · Junior Colson · LB · rank 120
They reached into another round for Junior Colson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
R4.17 · Pick 117 · Cade Stover · TE · rank 136
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Cade Stover. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · James Williams · S · rank 129
By-the-book stuff, James Williams at Round 4, Pick 26 squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Theo Wease · WR · rank 133
They took Theo Wease at par in No. 127, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.18 · Pick 154 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 128
You do not let a cornerback like Khyree Jackson reach the 154th overall pick and blink. They did not. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
R5.30 · Pick 166 · Jaylan Ford · LB · rank 162
They did well to land Jaylan Ford in the Round 5 slot, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R7.14 · Pick 234 · Jaylon Carlies · S · rank 223
They let Jaylon Carlies come to them and pounced at pick 234. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
R7.18 · Pick 238 · Marques Cox · OT · rank 219
Steal is underselling it; Marques Cox at pick No. 238 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
