After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Caleb Williams is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
If Bethune pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 2nd pick they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ladd McConkey. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jackson Powers-Johnson at pick No. 40 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Cooper Beebe in pick 67 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Max Melton at the 100th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid up for Mohamed Kamara at the Round 4 slot when waiting would have done the job. The roster fit checks out.
They did well to land Ben Sinnott in slot 141, just ahead of his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They talked themselves into Jawhar Jordan at No. 181, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Tatum Bethune in pick No. 223, miles early. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
