Somebody took the Cowboys to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
They will need Watson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The McCarthy pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 9 they get a long-term starter on the line, reach and all. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
J.J. McCarthy slipping to the 56th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Nothing to complain about; Trey Benson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
No drama and no debate, Junior Colson went about where he belonged in the 76th overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A premium they did not need to pay, Justin Eboigbe a notch or two before his time. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kris Abrams-Draine in slot 122. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Josh Proctor in pick No. 174 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They reached into another round for Nathaniel Watson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Dwight McGlothern at the 245th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
