Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Cowboys spent the Round 6 slot on Zion Logue, a name most had 55 spots down the list.
A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. The Turner pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Value with a capital V on Dallas Turner in pick No. 24, a genuine coup. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Marist Liufau at slot 87 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
By-the-book stuff, Isaiah Adams at the 125th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They talked themselves into Layden Robinson at pick 141, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A tidy little value on Renardo Green in Round 5, Pick 22, a step better than break-even. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They liked Jordan Jefferson enough to skip the value, taking him in the 173rd overall pick. The roster fit checks out.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Zion Logue in the 213th pick, miles early. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
No drama and no debate, Jalen Green went about where he belonged in Round 7, Pick 5. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Xavier Thomas in pick 229 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Maurice Smith at the 242nd overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A big swing on Chris Morris at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
