The Blake Watson selection is the head-turner. The Packers reached 32 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Dixon. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A clean fit for the roster.
They paid up for Edgerrin Cooper at the Round 2 slot when waiting would have done the job. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They did well to land T.J. Tampa in pick 58, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy little value on Jaden Hicks in Round 3, Pick 25, a step better than break-even. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Trey Benson in slot 91. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A conviction pick on Roger Rosengarten at the 126th pick that the board grades a round light. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A quiet steal in pick No. 169: Tykee Smith for less than the market said. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
A big swing on Myles Murphy at pick 202, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
Johnny Dixon in No. 219 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Bub Means in the 245th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
