Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Cardinals spent slot 151 on Antwane Wells Jr., a name most had 28 spots down the list. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
That Walker pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with quarterback the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 16 they get a building block for the line, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
The board fumbled Jalon Walker all the way to the 47th overall pick, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid a round early for Quinn Ewers in the Round 3 slot, more than the board wanted. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jason Marshall Jr. at the 114th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Value said wait; Antwane Wells Jr. in pick 151 says they were not listening. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
