The war room fell hard for Kedon Slovis, and it showed at Round 7, Pick 39: 48 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. A D that will need time and luck to look better.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. For all the activity, linebacker went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The Cowboys clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and linebacker is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 21 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In slot 24 they get a building block for the line, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No drama and no debate, Xavier Worthy went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 24. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No edge and no loss on Trey Benson in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Kedon Slovis in pick 257 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
