They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
The Suamataia pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Getting Tampa where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 5th pick they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value.
Tyler Guyton in No. 36 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Darius Robinson. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Kingsley Suamataia at slot 40 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
T.J. Tampa at pick 67 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Cade Stover at the 78th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A tidy little value on Malik Washington in the Round 3 slot, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reach for Mason McCormick in pick No. 139; a little patience would have been rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They went early on Jared Wiley in slot 152, and the value did not follow. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A straight-up fair deal on JD Bertrand at pick 222, value and slot in agreement. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
