You can hear the double-takes from here. The Packers took Jaylen Wright at pick 126, roughly 37 spots before his name belonged.
Getting Ford where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get an island corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They let Troy Fautanu come to them and pounced at the 41st pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jonathon Brooks at pick No. 57 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took Sedrick Van Pran at par in the 88th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They jumped the gun on Jaden Hicks, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Jaylen Wright at pick 126 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They did well to land Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in Round 5, Pick 32, just ahead of his grade. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Taking Jaylan Ford in the 203rd overall pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Darius Muasau at the 216th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
A big swing on Xavier Thomas at pick 243, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid up for Nathaniel Watson at No. 251 when waiting would have done the job. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
