The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it. The All pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Every board in the league had Johnson lower, and that gap is the story.
They left with tight end solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 2 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
They paid a round early for Kris Jenkins in No. 36, more than the board wanted. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Cooper Beebe at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 67 with a little surplus value in Kingsley Suamataia. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They went early on Cam Hart in Round 3, Pick 23, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Theo Johnson. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A reach for Roger Rosengarten in the 127th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Tommy Eichenberg in pick No. 139 is fair value, right on his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They did well to land Justin Eboigbe in pick No. 152, just ahead of his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
They robbed the room for Erick All here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
