The Evan Williams selection is the head-turner. The Packers reached 31 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They banked enough surplus on Jacobs to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Dallas Turner at the 25th overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nothing to complain about; Kamren Kinchens went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
They paid sticker price for Edgerrin Cooper in pick 57, and that is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
No drama and no debate, Sedrick Van Pran went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 25. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Bucky Irving at No. 91 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Good price on Jarrian Jones in pick No. 126, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jaylen Wright at No. 168 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Curtis Jacobs in slot 203 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Aki Ogunbiyi in the 216th overall pick, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid up for Dwight McGlothern at Round 7, Pick 23 when waiting would have done the job. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Evan Williams in the 251st pick, miles early. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
