It is the swing that defines the weekend: James Williams in pick 103, a good 27 spots before the room expected him. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. It is not that Solomon is a bad player; it is that the Texans had louder needs to answer first.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
They talked themselves into T'Vondre Sweat at pick 34, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Cooper Beebe in Round 2, Pick 27, miles early. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A conviction pick on Roman Wilson at the 68th overall pick that the board grades a round light. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Javon Solomon at OLB-EDGE with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots open.
They reached a country mile for James Williams at pick No. 103, and the board is aghast. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A premium they did not need to pay, Javon Foster a notch or two before his time. It fills a real need, too.
Jaylin Simpson in the 127th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Jaylen Wright in the Round 5 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
