Start where it matters. The Patriots took Jayden Daniels to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
The Phillips pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 8th overall pick they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
The board had Amarius Mims higher than pick No. 34, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Good price on Keon Coleman in the 43rd pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Patrick Paul in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
They paid sticker price for Will Shipley in Round 4, Pick 2, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Andru Phillips at No. 136 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A minor itch, scratched.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jaheim Bell at pick 179 is the proof. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Frank Gore Jr. at slot 231 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
