The Chiefs went off the board in a big way for Solomon Byrd, 63 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
Landing Barrett that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Kiran Amegadjie in the Round 2 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Roman Wilson in No. 95. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Javon Foster at pick 133 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Solomon Byrd in slot 158, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jaylin Simpson at pick No. 172 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Michael Barrett at Round 6, Pick 35 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
Nathaniel Watson at pick No. 250 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It fills a real need, too.
