For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Chiefs walked out of the weekend still thin at tight end, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
If Boyd pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The McGlothern pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. A fair-value weekend of trading, no edge to be found.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
No edge and no loss on Roman Wilson in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
By-the-book stuff, Patrick Paul at the 64th pick squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Fair-plus on Devontez Walker, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reach for Leonard Taylor III in Round 3, Pick 32; a little patience would have been rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They went early on Mason McCormick in pick No. 132, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Khristian Boyd in slot 159 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Dwight McGlothern in pick 175 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A minor itch, scratched.
Michael Barrett at the 239th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid sticker price for Jalen Coker in pick 252, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
