If confidence were a draft strategy, the Chiefs would have aced it. Evan Anderson at the 250th pick is 46 spots clear of where he belonged. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Williams at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Adonai Mitchell is a better player than the 41st overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Cooper Beebe in the Round 2 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They went early on Dominick Puni in Round 3, Pick 25, and the value did not follow. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They reached a country mile for Darius Robinson at pick No. 95, and the board is aghast. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They jumped the gun on Cedric Gray, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It fills a real need, too.
Ben Sinnott at the 133rd pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Nothing to complain about; Jaylin Simpson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Michael Wiley at the 172nd overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They took Christian Jones at par in pick 203, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid sticker price for Kenny Logan Jr. in pick No. 210, and that is fine. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Isaiah Williams in slot 216 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Value said wait; Evan Anderson in the 250th pick says they were not listening. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
