If one pick saves this weekend, it is Simpson. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Adonai Mitchell in the 31st overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Fair-plus on T'Vondre Sweat, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They reached a country mile for Darius Robinson at pick 94, and the board is aghast. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Ben Sinnott at pick No. 131 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jaylin Simpson in the 161st pick. A minor itch, scratched.
They jumped the gun on Michael Barrett, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Value said wait; Christian Jones in the Round 5 slot says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A real head-scratcher, Joshua Cephus in slot 209 is miles ahead of his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid sticker price for Dwight McGlothern in pick 252, and that is fine. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
