The Chiefs treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending slot 132 on Khristian Boyd a full 46 spots early. No fireworks, but a solid B.
For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. Getting McCaffrey where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 32 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Kingsley Suamataia in pick 64 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board had Renardo Green higher than Round 3, Pick 32, and the safety fell to them anyway. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They talked themselves into Khristian Boyd at the 132nd overall pick, and the board did not agree. It fills a real need, too.
They read the board right and Mason McCormick was the payoff at the Round 5 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Taking Luke McCaffrey in pick No. 173 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nice patience on Michael Barrett, who had no business lasting to the 252nd pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
