Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs let Isaac fall and pounced. Final grade: C-.

The Chiefs did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Adisa Isaac fell into slot 83.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They are betting Washington proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.32 · Pick 32 · Troy Franklin · WR · rank 30
In slot 32 they get a No. 1 receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.32 · Pick 64 · Junior Colson · LB · rank 49
Junior Colson slipping to the 64th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.19 · Pick 83 · Adisa Isaac · DE-EDGE · rank 50
Adisa Isaac in Round 3, Pick 19 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 81
Khyree Jackson is a better player than No. 95 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Javon Foster · OT · rank 119
Javon Foster at pick No. 100 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Fabien Lovett · DL · rank 144
They liked Fabien Lovett enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 4 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.18 · Pick 154 · Mason McCormick · OT · rank 159
Mason McCormick at pick 154 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.22 · Pick 158 · Kitan Oladapo · S · rank 155
Kitan Oladapo in the 158th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R5.36 · Pick 172 · Tahj Washington · WR · rank 192
They left a pile of value on the table to take Tahj Washington this early at the Round 5 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
