Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Chiefs were there to profit. Mason Taylor, the No. 97 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 132. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
The Amos pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The Chiefs indulged a want in Mukuba while a need in wide receiver, offensive lineman and other spots stayed open. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
This one needs a full-page explanation: Trey Amos in the 32nd pick, miles early. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A quiet steal in No. 64: Xavier Watts for less than the market said. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jihaad Campbell in pick No. 66, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Andrew Mukuba at safety with wide receiver, offensive lineman and other spots open.
They barely believed it either: Mason Taylor still on the board at the 132nd overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
