Kansas City Chiefs

A solid, sensible weekend for the Chiefs: B-.

It is the swing that defines the weekend: Jared Wiley in the Round 5 slot, a good 42 spots before the room expected him.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.

Quantity was the play, for better or worse.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.1 · Pick 33 · Darius Robinson · DL-EDGE · rank 37
They took Darius Robinson at par in slot 33, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
R2.32 · Pick 64 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 76
Cooper Beebe at pick 64 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Christian Mahogany · OG · rank 99
No drama and no debate, Christian Mahogany went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Jaylin Simpson · CB · rank 135
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jaylin Simpson well ahead of where he belonged. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R4.31 · Pick 131 · Kitan Oladapo · S · rank 156
Kitan Oladapo in No. 131 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R5.22 · Pick 158 · Jared Wiley · TE · rank 200
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jared Wiley. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.29 · Pick 165 · Khristian Boyd · DL-EDGE · rank 179
A reach on Khristian Boyd in the 165th overall pick; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.36 · Pick 172 · Cornelius Johnson · WR · rank 187
Cornelius Johnson in the Round 5 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R7.32 · Pick 252 · Joshua Cephus · WR · rank 256
Joshua Cephus in pick No. 252 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
