Somebody in the Round 4 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Chiefs sat still while Dominick Puni, the No. 102 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Cephus pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a weapon on the perimeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No drama and no debate, Junior Colson went about where he belonged in slot 64. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Cooper Beebe reach the 95th pick and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Dominick Puni at pick No. 133 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
By-the-book stuff, Khristian Boyd at the Round 5 slot squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
They will replay Jaylin Simpson at the 172nd overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A minor itch, scratched.
Jared Wiley in pick 210 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Joshua Cephus at No. 250 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
