The Chiefs spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Tahj Washington, the No. 188 name on the board, in pick No. 252.
They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 3 of 8 of the wish list covered. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
A fair-value weekend of trading, no edge to be found.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
Adonai Mitchell in slot 33 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 64 with a little surplus value in Kingsley Suamataia. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
You do not let a wide receiver like Ricky Pearsall reach No. 95 and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Taking DJ James in the Round 4 slot is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A minor itch, scratched.
Isaac Guerendo in Round 4, Pick 32 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The roster fit checks out.
A slide stopped in the 159th overall pick, with Mason McCormick worth more than the price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jaylin Simpson in pick 173 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Circle this one: Tahj Washington at the 252nd pick is a fall that decides a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
