Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Matthew Jones at the Round 6 slot is 40 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Puka Nacua gives the group a proven body among the projects.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 32 they get a true top target. The biggest hole, addressed.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Darius Robinson. A need, and now a little less of one.
MarShawn Lloyd in No. 133 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Nothing to complain about; Jaylin Simpson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They went early on Michael Barrett in the 172nd overall pick, and the value did not follow. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Matthew Jones in the 210th pick, miles early. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
By-the-book stuff, Jalen Sundell at No. 250 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
