Everything else got attention, and tight end got none. That is a strange way for the Chiefs to leave a draft. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
They banked enough surplus on McGlothern to cover a lot of smaller sins. McCormick has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd pick they get a weapon on the perimeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Patrick Paul in slot 64 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Mekhi Wingo at pick No. 95 is a conviction pick that outran the value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They liked Mason McCormick enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 132. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Luke McCaffrey at the 159th overall pick is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They let Dwight McGlothern come to them and pounced at No. 173. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A straight-up fair deal on Rasheen Ali at Round 7, Pick 32, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
