The phones were a trap the Chiefs kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. A D+ that will need time and luck to look better.
Landing Flournoy that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.
If Sweat pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, tight end very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
The board had cheaper options than T'Vondre Sweat at pick 35, and it noticed. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Devontez Walker in slot 64 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Patrick Paul at No. 66 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Somehow Jeremiah Trotter Jr. was still sitting there in pick No. 90, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A straight-up fair deal on Christian Mahogany at the 95th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Jaylin Simpson in Round 4, Pick 32, and that is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Khristian Boyd at the 159th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A slide stopped in the Round 5 slot, with Dwight McGlothern worth more than the price. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Ryan Flournoy in slot 252 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
