The weekend has a hole in the middle of it named tight end, a need the Chiefs walked right past.
The Boyd pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They banked enough surplus on Fautanu to cover a lot of smaller sins. They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd overall pick they get a building block for the line, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Good price on Ricky Pearsall in No. 64, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Christian Mahogany in pick 95; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jarrian Jones. A minor itch, scratched.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Khristian Boyd this early at the 159th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Isaiah Williams in the Round 5 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
