There is reaching, and then there is Ryan Flournoy at the 180th overall pick. The Chiefs jumped the board by 25 and dared it to prove them wrong. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
Adonai Mitchell in the 34th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kris Jenkins in the Round 2 slot. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Renardo Green in pick No. 95, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A tidy little value on Isaac Guerendo in slot 132, a step better than break-even. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Walter Rouse in Round 5, Pick 23 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Dwight McGlothern slipping to pick 173 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Ryan Flournoy at the Round 6 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jalen Sundell at the 252nd pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
