The Chiefs spent real capital to be 45 picks early on Khristian Boyd, and the board is going to hold them to it. No fireworks, but a solid B.
That Simpson pick is the receipt they will wave around later. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
Adonai Mitchell at pick No. 40 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Michael Hall Jr. at the Round 2 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
A slide stopped in No. 78, with Kingsley Suamataia worth more than the price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They will replay Renardo Green at slot 95 for years; that is how good the value is. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A big swing on Khristian Boyd at pick 132, well ahead of any board in the building. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Nice patience on Luke McCaffrey, who had no business lasting to Round 5, Pick 23. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Somehow Jaylin Simpson was still sitting there in No. 173, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jalen Sundell in pick 252. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
