Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Chiefs were there to profit. Ryan Flournoy, the No. 203 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 7, Pick 32. No fireworks, but a solid B.
If Boyd pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 3 of 8 of the wish list covered. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 32 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A clean, defensible pick in No. 64 with a little surplus value in Kingsley Suamataia. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They will replay Patrick Paul at Round 3, Pick 32 for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Khristian Boyd this early at the 132nd pick. It fills a real need, too.
They barely believed it either: Jaylin Simpson still on the board at the 159th overall pick. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Luke McCaffrey at the Round 5 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Ryan Flournoy in slot 252 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
